Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a disorder characterized by extreme fatigue with no underlying medical condition. It is also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME). The main symptom of CFS is extreme physical and mental tiredness (fatigue) that does not go away with rest or sleep, other symptoms of CFS can include muscle or joint pain, headaches, a sore throat or sore glands that are not swollen, flu-like symptoms, feeling dizzy or sick, and fast or irregular heartbeats (heart palpitations).
